To Jeb Bush and his group that seem to be endorsing the idea that it is
time to leave Reagan and what he represented behind-to be more progressive and forward looking. Time to start "listening" for a new more moderate and mass appeal message.
You people just "don't get it".
You say you want to draw people to your cause--how about you entertaining the idea that you are drawn to the people with a conservative cause--because that is YOUR cause!!!
Over the last few years, and especially the last election cycle, where conservatives lost their voice via the republican platform-- due to the most quote "liberal moderate presidential candidate ever fielded by the republican party-John McCain-" it should have become clear, to the most addle pated critic--that "moderate" positions is not what will sell the conservatives; that by most accounts holds the overwhelming number of votes that can be attained.
Rather than go in search of ideas that you can promote why not do as Reagan did? Promote what you stand for and see who agrees with you and feels that your views are in line with theirs. If your principles and values are truly conservative in nature [Let me spell it our for you here in case you need a reminder]
- Tax equal to small government budget
- True pride in America and being an American
- Belief in Judeo Christian Roots that founded this country
- Belief in the Constitution as it was originally written
- The notion that the executive branch proposes policies and promotes the American Way/the legislative establishes laws to support policy and the judicial system enforces those laws rather than legislating from the bench to get around the law.
- Pro life vs Pro Choice [better to error on the side of life versus murder]
How hard is it to work 8 simple ideas into a message that you could promote aggressively as your position. Instead of trying to adapt yourself to whatever feel good, politically correct, focus group endorsed, idea of the moment- for a perceived short term gain, try having the
guts to rely on what you believe to be right rather than what everyone else says is the right move.
The only problem I see here is that maybe those ideals are not what you believe in. If that is the case then have the courage to promote the ideals that you do believe in and see what happens.
One could make the case that you already have. This of course means that you do not represent the true ideals of what the republican party/conservative party, really wants and since it appears that you do not want to change you are looking for some way to engage those that do.
It is really very simple {
Change Parties or create a new one}
You haven't and will never sell those moderate progressive ideals as being equal to what conservatives are looking for as represented by the only current outlet for them to use: The Republican Party.
